Vietnam recorded a sharp increase in visitors from the Philippines during the first seven months of the year, making the country the fastest-growing Southeast Asian source market for Vietnam’s tourism sector.

Between January and July, Vietnam welcomed approximately 416,000 visitors from the Philippines, representing a 63.6% increase compared with the same period last year.

This was the highest growth rate among Southeast Asian markets during the period.

Strong Growth Across Southeast Asian Markets

The Philippines was not the only regional market to record significant growth.

According to data from the General Statistics Office, tourist arrivals from several other Southeast Asian countries also rose strongly during the first seven months of the year.

Visitor numbers from:

  • Cambodia increased by 40.8%
  • Singapore increased by 31%
  • Indonesia increased by 27.3%
  • Malaysia increased by 21.6%

The figures show growing travel demand between Vietnam and other countries within Southeast Asia.

More Direct Flights Support Regional Travel

Vietnam’s tourism industry attributed the strong increase in Southeast Asian arrivals partly to the rapid expansion of direct flight connections and rising demand for travel within the region.

Several new international routes have been introduced this year.

On March 20, Indonesia AirAsia launched a direct service between Bali (Denpasar) and Da Nang.

Vietjet later introduced a direct route connecting Da Nang and Jakarta on April 29.

Air connectivity between Vietnam and the Philippines has also expanded.

In March, Philippines AirAsia launched a new direct route between Manila and Da Nang, providing travelers with another direct connection between the two countries.

These additional routes have made regional travel more accessible and supported the increasing number of Southeast Asian visitors entering Vietnam.

Vietnam Welcomes 13.9 Million International Visitors

Overall, Vietnam received 13.9 million international visitors during the first seven months of the year.

This represented an increase of 13.8% year-on-year, reflecting continued growth in the country’s international tourism market.

The particularly strong increase in visitors from the Philippines, together with higher arrival numbers from Cambodia, Singapore, Indonesia, and Malaysia, highlights the growing importance of Southeast Asian travelers to Vietnam’s tourism industry.
